How to Search the Cherokee County Jail Roster
The Sheriff's Office runs a public Jail List for the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. The tool sits on the Sheriff site and is open to anyone. No login is needed. The search box accepts a name, and the page lists the latest matching inmates with their booking record. The prompt on the page reads "Show me the latest inmates with a name that contains:" which means partial names work. Sheriff Frank Reynolds leads the office, and the agency serves more than 299,000 residents in the county.
The search posts to a report endpoint that returns the current inmate JSON. Charges show under each booking record. Bond status is set by a Magistrate judge at first appearance. Use the same Cherokee County jail roster to check if someone is still being held after a recent arrest. The result list does not always show release dates or court dates, so plan to call the jail if the timing matters.
The Cherokee County Jail List search interface is the right starting point for any inmate lookup.

The search interface keeps the form short, with one text field and a Go button, which makes the lookup quick even for users who do not know the full booking number.
- Open the Sheriff's Jail List search page at sheriff.cherokeecountyga.gov.
- Type a full or partial name into the inmate name field.
- Click Go. The page posts to the inmate report endpoint.
- Scroll the list of latest inmates. Match by name and birth date.
- Click into the booking row to view charges, bond, and arresting agency codes.
- Repeat with a different spelling if no match comes back.
- Call the jail at 678-493-4200 to confirm any urgent status.
Note: The Jail List shows people booked into the local jail only; it does not cover state prison or federal custody.
Cherokee County Jail List Search Fields
The portal keeps its form lean. Only one search field is shown to the public, and the page does not list wildcard or advanced options. The Cherokee County inmate search works by partial name match, which lets users find an inmate by a last name alone or a common first name. Sheriff's Office staff control the data feed on the back end.
The field set observed on the public page:
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inmate Name | Text | Optional | "Show me the latest inmates with a name that contains:" Accepts partial names. |
| Go | Submit | n/a | Posts to inmate-search-report.php and returns the latest inmate JSON. |
Searches with too few letters can return many hits. Try a last name plus the first letter of a first name to narrow the list. The result rows can be sorted by booking date.
Reading a Cherokee County Inmate Result
Each Cherokee County inmate record returns a fixed set of fields. The data comes straight from the Jail Management System. The fields below were observed on the live Jail List report endpoint in May 2026 and reflect the current inmate JSON in use.

The report endpoint groups bookings by ID and lists charges as JSON keyed off the booking number, which is why a single inmate may show several charge lines under one entry.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| InmateId | The jail's internal ID for the person, such as P00003961. Stays with the inmate across bookings. |
| BookingId | The booking event number, such as 262547. A new ID is made each time the person is booked in. |
| Name | Last name, first name. Format is LAST, FIRST as keyed in at intake. |
| BirthDate | Date of birth in YYYY-MM-DD form. Used to tell apart people with the same name. |
| BookingDate | Date the person was booked into the Adult Detention Center. |
| ArrestingAgency | Short code for the agency that made the arrest. Codes seen include CPD, CCSO, WSPD, and GSP. |
| Charges | List of charges tied to the booking. Each charge text includes the case or warrant number in parentheses. |
| ChargeAmount | Bond amount for each charge. The detail view totals per-charge bond. |
| BondType | Code like NO or BREF. The page may display "No Bond" or "Bond off Bond" when no amount or code is set. |
The public JSON does not include a mugshot field. It also does not show height, weight, race, sex, holding pod, court date, or release date. Anyone who needs that information should contact the jail directly. A warrant number is often hidden inside the charge text, like AGGRAVATED SODOMY (25MW0561).
Charges, Bond, and Arresting Agency Codes
The Cherokee County jail roster uses short codes to keep records tight. The arresting agency code shows which department made the stop or executed the warrant. Several agencies book directly into the Adult Detention Center, which is the only full-service jail in the county. Smaller cities run small holding rooms but bring their arrestees here.
Common arresting agency codes:
- CCSO: Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
- CPD: Canton Police Department.
- WSPD: Woodstock Police Department.
- GSP: Georgia State Patrol.
Other agencies that book into the Adult Detention Center include the Department of Natural Resources, Holly Springs Police Department, Ball Ground Police Department, and the Cherokee County School District Police. Each agency files its own report, but the jail intake process is the same.
Bond codes on the roster are short. "NO" usually shows as "No Bond" on screen, which means a judge has not set a bond yet or has held the inmate without bond. "BREF" appears as "Bond off Bond" in the public view. A Magistrate judge sets bond at first appearance, and amounts vary by charge type and prior history. For background on the underlying case, see criminal records.
Cherokee County Adult Detention Center
The Adult Detention Center (ADC) is the only full-service jail in Cherokee County. Sheriff Frank Reynolds runs the facility. It houses adult males and females age 17 or older. The original building opened in 1989, with a first expansion done in 2002 and a second one done in 2021. The original facility has six direct observation housing units and a 27-bed medical infirmary. The expansion added 14 housing units, 21 dayrooms, internal control towers, and three exercise yards.
The ADC carries the National Sheriff's Association Triple Crown. It is accredited by the American Correctional Association, CALEA, and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The most recent NCCHC re-accreditation was awarded in April 2023. The facility books in arrestees from CCSO, GSP, the Department of Natural Resources, Canton PD, Woodstock PD, Holly Springs PD, Ball Ground PD, and the school district police.

Cherokee County Booking and First Appearance Process
A Cherokee County inmate enters the system the moment the arresting officer transports them to the ADC. Intake staff search the person, log their property and money, and place those items in inventory. Cash on hand is receipted and deposited to a new inmate account at the jail.
Medical and mental health staff complete an intake screen on every new arrival. Correct Health runs the clinic on site. The classification team then assigns a housing unit based on charge type, history, and any flags from the screen. The whole process can take hours and depends on volume that day.
Magistrate Court handles initial appearance and bail hearings for every person booked into the ADC. The Magistrate Court sits open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so first appearance can happen at night or on a weekend. A judge reads the charges, advises the defendant of rights, and sets bond. After-hours judges cover the off-shift slots. For warrant questions in advance of a stop, see warrant records.
Inmate Mail at the Cherokee County Jail
Mail rules at the ADC follow a scan-and-deliver model used by many modern jails. Personal mail no longer comes straight to Canton. It is sent to a central facility, opened, scanned, and forwarded electronically to the inmate's tablet or kiosk view. The Sheriff's inmate information page spells out what is allowed and what is not.
Inmates may write to most people unless a court order or jail rule blocks it. Inmate-to-inmate mail is banned. Mail from other jails, prisons, or detention facilities is not accepted at all. Items with no return address come back as undeliverable. Bulk packages with no return address are returned the same way.
Legal and government mail is treated as privileged. It is opened only in the inmate's presence to check for contraband, and the contents are not read or censored. Scanned non-privileged mail is screened for banned content. Banned content includes nudity, illegal acts, gang material, weapon or escape diagrams, drug or alcohol items, hate speech, sexual content, attacks on staff, chemical alterations, and many others. Note: Cash and personal checks are never accepted by mail.
Inmate Phones, Property, and Commissary
Phones at the ADC run on a collect-call platform. Outgoing calls are allowed between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Inmates in disciplinary segregation cannot make general phone calls. Family or friends set up a prepaid account with Inmate Sales at 1-877-998-5678 for billing and call funds. Calls are monitored and recorded except for attorney lines that are properly registered.
Property is held in a secure storage area at the jail. The inmate must fill out and sign a property release form before anyone can pick up their items. Pickup hours run Monday through Friday, except holidays, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. A government photo ID is required at pickup. The property deputy can be reached at 678-493-4212.
Money deposits go through a few channels. Money orders and government checks are credited to the inmate account. Cash and personal checks sent by mail are returned. Online deposits and the lobby ATM at the ADC accept credit, debit, and cash. JailATM is the linked vendor for commissary funds. The Inmate Records Manager handles commissary account questions at 678-493-4209. Funds in an inmate account are released back during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., when the inmate is set free. For broader population data, see inmate population.
Cherokee County Jail Visitation
The ADC uses video visitation. There is no glass-and-phone booth model anymore. On-site video visits are free at the Visitation Center. Remote visits run through a web vendor and can be done from a phone or computer. A stable Wi-Fi connection is recommended for remote visits.
On-site visits must be scheduled one day in advance, last 30 minutes, and allow no more than two visitors per terminal. Each inmate gets one on-site visit per day on the assigned visitation day. The schedule rotates by housing letter and pod number. The full schedule and rules sit on the Sheriff's visitation page.

The visitation page lays out the on-site and remote schedules side by side so visitors can pick the format that fits their week.
| Days | Times | Group |
|---|---|---|
| Monday, Thursday, Saturday | 7:30-9:30 a.m.; 6:30-9:10 p.m. | F, N, P, Q, R, IMWF, G1-G4, 5G, G6, G7, V1-V4, J, K, L, M |

Remote visits cost a small fee and can be scheduled the same day or up to three weeks ahead. Same-day scheduling closes one hour before the start time. Account setup runs through iWebVisit.com. Non-confidential visits are monitored and recorded. Attorneys and other confidential professionals must follow the Confidential Visitor Information steps before any session, or the visit may be recorded by default.
| Visit Type | Time Blocks | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Standard remote visit | 7:30-10:00 a.m.; 1:00-3:00 p.m.; 6:30-9:40 p.m. | $6.00 per 15-minute visit; up to three per inmate per day. |
| Confidential remote visit | 7:30-10:30 a.m.; 12:30-6:00 p.m.; 6:00-9:40 p.m. | $7.00 per visit for approved attorneys and confidential pros. |
| Male IWF only | 4:00 p.m.-9:40 p.m. | Applies to Male IWF housing only. |
Children under 18 must be with an adult unless they show proof of age. Cell phones, purses, and other personal items are not allowed in the on-site visitation area. Note: Visitation is a privilege, and disciplinary or security-risk inmates may lose visits with little warning.
Medical, Mental Health, and Jail Programs
Correct Health provides medical, dental, and mental health care in the ADC. The clinic sits inside the original facility and includes the 27-bed medical infirmary. Routine sick call, chronic care, and basic dental visits run on the in-house schedule. Mental health screening starts at booking and continues for inmates flagged for follow-up. The medical inquiry line for family and outside providers is 678-493-4547.
The jail runs a small set of programs that lean on outside volunteers. GED and adult education classes meet on a posted weekly schedule. Alcoholics Anonymous holds chapter meetings inside the facility. A chaplaincy program brings in religious services from several faith groups. More than 50 active volunteers support these programs at any one time.
Health and program access can vary by housing unit and disciplinary status. The Sheriff publishes the jail accreditation page with NCCHC and ACA standards in mind, which sets a baseline for medical care across the facility.
Jail List Accuracy Disclaimer
The Sheriff posts the Jail List as a public service. The site warns that the data is informational only. Custody status, charges, and bond can change at any time and may not show on the public feed right away. A row on the roster is not proof that the person is guilty of anything. An arrest is not a conviction. Use the list as a starting point, not a final answer.
Important: The Cherokee County Jail List is informational only, subject to change, may be updated periodically, and may contain factual errors. Inmate information changes quickly. An arrest does not mean a conviction. The data should not be relied upon for legal action, and unauthorized or illegal use is prohibited.
Court files held by the Clerk of Courts are the formal record for charges, plea, and disposition. The Superior Court handles felony cases that move past the jail intake step. For probate-side matters tied to a death in custody or a guardianship, see Probate Court.
When to Call the Sheriff's Office
A call to the jail is the right move when the online roster shows nothing and the family thinks an arrest just happened. Booking can take a few hours, so a fresh arrest may not be in the system yet. Staff at 678-493-4200 can confirm if someone has come through intake. The line is open around the clock.
Call when bond paperwork is unclear or when a court date is needed and the public JSON does not show one. The detail page for each booking lists the charges and the bond status, but it does not always carry a court calendar entry. The court dockets page on this site can help track upcoming hearings once the case files in.
For released inmates, the Jail List rolls them off the current list, and the public report does not flag the release date. Use the Jail List first, then call the ADC if confirmation is needed. The released inmates page covers the wider workflow for state and federal custody. For victim notification, the national VINELink service registers people for alerts on custody status. Note: Open records requests for incident reports go through the Sheriff's records page.
The public records page and the FAQ cover other lookup paths if the Jail List does not answer the question.
Where Inmate Profiles Live
The Cherokee County inmate profile page is generated on the fly from the search. There is no permalink for a single inmate. A user has to re-run the search each time. The Sheriff inmate information page holds the static rules for mail, property, programs, commissary, medical, and phones.

The inmate information page is the single best reference for friends and family who want to understand how the jail handles the daily life of a person in custody.
